Challenge

Our clients were in need of a larger home to better suit their growing family, so they purchased a period home on a large block in Malvern.

The clients could see that the home had enormous potential but were under no illusions that it was in need of a dramatic repair and renovation. A deceased estate, the home had been replastered and painted in order to hide all the cracks when it was placed on the market. Our clients were eager to fix up and refurbish the home immediately.

Solution

We worked collaboratively with our clients, their chosen designer (Sketch Building Design) and Nicole Chapman from Empire Interiors to resurrect this historic house to its former glory whilst constructing an extension that provided the home with a modernist, luxury flair.

We spent a lot of time with these specialists ironing out any complications during the design phase and ensuring our building plans would result in a faultless family home.  We’re thrilled to hear that the Sketch team and Empire Interiors have gone on to undertake many further home projects together.

Home

The resulting home is one of refined elegance, which strikes the perfect balance between classic old-school luxury and bold modernist design.

The stunning front facade of the home has been brought back to its former glory and a brand new slate roof was installed to replace the original. Old English tiles were introduced to replace the old timber front verandah to complement the style of the home and our passionate golfing client installed a new putting green in the front yard. Natural materials and custom tiling were integrated into the home to soften the modernist features and add a fresh, bright feeling to the home.

Some of the defining features of this Malvern family home include striking steel windows, custom natural stone tiling, a Cheminees Phillipe indoor fireplace with rendered brick chimney, Tuscan Intrigue Sisal carpets, George Feathers “Otto” floorboards and an enchanting alfresco area with outdoor fireplace and inground pool.

“Throughout the whole experience the Fortem team were respectful to our timeline, cost and efficiencies. We found that it was a collaborative process and that the Fortem directors and tradespeople were knowledgeable and passionate throughout the entire build.”
